The rapid spread of the new coronavirus lead, both the economic and educational environment, to a decision agility test to ensure the continuity of activity. Thanks to a solution for online courses, deployed and set up in record time by BRINEL, the University of Medicine and Pharmacy "Iuliu Hatieganu" Cluj-Napoca managed to be among the first higher education institutions in the country that has moved its activity online with the aim of reducing the epidemiological risk of spreading SARS-Cov-2 virus infection.
In figures, the solution serves over 8000 users (students and teaching personnel) with facilities for videoconferencing, video presentation, collaborative presentation on documents, document sharing and video, audio and text content, ranging from up to 250 simultaneous users or even live streaming with thousands of participants.
UMF "Iuliu Hatieganu" Cluj-Napoca uses the solution from mid-March, managing to preserve the quality of the teaching act and minimize the risks of spreading the virus.
“The University has always been concerned about the safety of the academic community and society. Since the beginning of the epidemic we have decided to take prophylactic action, by continuing the teaching activity online. We wish to support our students by giving them the opportunity to continue their training, under the same conditions of quality and rigor, without exposing to risks either them or their patients. It was challenging due to the complexity of the teaching process and the particularities of the higher medical education.
I would like to thank the new management team, teaching personnel and students who, through their involvement and responsibility, have proved that the university acts as a large family, in solidarity with the whole civil society. We also thank BRINEL specialists who responded promptly and seriously to the university's request for the development and implementation of this project," said Prof. Dr. Anca Dana Buzoianu, rector of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy "Iuliu Hatieganu".
The project, coordinated by Ovidiu Teodorescu – BRINEL, was completed in less than 2 weeks, with around 1000 working teams (Teams) created, set up in the platform and customized to the needs of the university.
The technical solution is based on Microsoft Team's communication platform and user identity management through Microsoft's Azure Active Directory.
