Data Center communication equipment differs from the rest of the network by its high density and high performance features. They must provide 10 and 40 Gbps transfer rates without delays in packet transmission.

In the new design models there appear optimizations result from the integration of Ethernet and Fiber Channel networks into one single infrastructure. This model reduces both the cost and time it takes to install and then manage the two Data Center networks. 

Another important step in optimizing communications infrastructure in the Data Center is the use of modular switching structures with concentrated intelligence but with distributed access system. This topology combines EoR (End of the Row) and ToR (Top of the Rack) functionality to provide centralized management and monitoring of distributed switching in the rack.
